I believe in a free market, a strong defense, a safety net for the vulnerable in our society, an obligation to our elderly and an opportunity for all willing to work hard and accept personal responsibility.
These are not contradictory beliefs. Taken together, they help weave a fabric for a strong and dynamic economy and society.
But I do not believe in a free lunch. Not for fat cats on Wall Street or those looking for a handout instead of a hand up.
The US Financial System of the 2000s has morphed into Capitalism for profits and Socialism for losses with the downside pushed on to our children and grandchildren. This is immoral pure and simple. That is not acceptable to me and must change.
